I work at the UJCC Early Learning Center. It is Uniontowns Jewish Community Center, which is in an old huge mansion. Although it is called the Jewish Center, you do not have to be Jewish to attend the daycare or pre-school. I think there are only two children who are actually Jewish that attend the daycare, and none of the staff is Jewish either.
My job has a huge impact on my life. You know how people say you should leave your work at work, well I do not. I work full-time in the summers and part-time during the school year. My first two years of working there I was with the same group of children, who eventually became my own group instead of me just assisting another teacher. I think this group of children spoiled me for my future teaching. These children were so bright and such amazing children that I missed them the minute after they went off to kindergarten. I am really looking forward for June to come when the summer program begins at my daycare when elementary students come to our child care center for summer day camp. I will be getting back my group that I had for two years and I can not wait to see them. Another reason why I am excited for the summer program is because I have learned a lot of new things this year with my elementary education major that I want to try out with my summer group.
I think working with children is one of the most rewarding jobs. I absolutely love teaching children something, then asking them later on or the next day about what you taught them and have them remember what they learned. I know working at a daycare is a lot different than an elementary classroom setting and I can not wait for my own classroom.
