Oak Island, North Carolina

Oak Island is located towards the southern end of North Carolina and about a hour north of Myrtle Beach, SC.

Oak Island is definitely my favorite place that I have ever been to. My family and I have been vacationing there for several years now and we go every July for two weeks.

It is something I start looking forward to the day after we return home. Oak Island is not a normal beach setting, like Myrtle Beach or Ocean City, because it is so quiet and not commercially built up. It is a relatively cheap place to vacation, and although they have a few commercial chains within a ten minute drive of them, such as McDonalds, Taco Bell and Loewes Foods, that is about all you will find.

The restaurants are all family owned, but they are amazing. We have two favorite restaurants that we eat at frequently while we are there. They are called San Felipe and Provisions. San Felipe is a mexican restaurant that is so cheap yet has the best Mexican food I have ever eaten. Provisions is a seafood and burger joint, where you order your food and drinks at a counter, go pick out a table on a deck that overlooks the water, then the waiter will bring you the food.

My Favorite Movies

I am a big fan of watching movies and because of this I am a subscriber to Netflix . To anyone who rents movie frequently, I would highly suggest buying a subscription to Netflix. It is definitely a money saver! My boyfriend and I watch at least two new movies every week for less than fifteen dollars a month.

As I told you before, I love to read. I have not had as much time recently to read as I would like, but once summer comes, especially when I am at the beach, I read all the time. I read books very quickly because once I get into a book I do not want to put it down until it is finished.

My favorite author is Nicholas Sparks and incase any of you do not know, he is the author of The Notebook, A Walk To Remember, Message in a Bottle, and Nights in Rodanthe. I have read every single one of his books and loved every one of them. He releases a new book about once a year and I am always looking forward to the date when it is released. I can usually read his books within a day or two, if I have the time, because they are so addicting and usually always make me cry with their sweet endings.

A new author who I have become a fan of over the past year or so is Jodi Picoult. I think I enjoy her books so much is because they are all different, yet all of them are controversial. Her books involve touchy topics such as rape, abortion, suicide but all of them have a love theme also. Several of her books have been made into Lifetime movies. And yes, even though I am a huge movie fan, the books are always better than the movies.

The last thing I am going to tell you about is Ohiopyle. If anyone has had the pleasure of going there then you already know how beautiful it is. People from other states come to visit Ohiopyle all the time, yet I am very fortunate enough to live less than a half hour away from it. Ohiopyle is situated where the slopes of Laurel Ridge clash with the Youghiogheny River. This resulted in waterfalls, whitewater rapids, scenic overlooks, rock outcroppings, and a steep mountainous landscape. My boyfriend and I go there as often as possible when the weather is nice. If we are not walking through the trails, we find a nice big rock along the water, put down our towels and I will read while he fishes. I would recommend Ohiopyle to anyone who likes to hike, bike ride, picnic, run, walk, fish, or even just to relax.
