Once a Marine, Always a Marine

The Beginning

In June, 1998, I went to the Pittsburgh MEPS with my Recruiter GySgt Demko and took the oath that change my life forever:

I, Jessica Adams, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.

October 25, 1998, I left Pittsburgh, PA and processed into boot camp at Parris Island, South Carolina.

I joined Platoon 4002, 4th Battalion we began training October 26, 1998 and graduated January 16, 1999. We started with 60 girls and ended with aprox. 42 Marines. We were from all walks of life, cultures and states but we had one thing in common: We all wanted to be a Marine.

In January, I came home a whole new person.

Returning Home

After my 10 days home, I was off to Marine Combant Training in Camp Geiger, North Carolina. It is aprox. 16 days of learning how to live off your enviroment and survive combat. Also, we did a mock "jungle" war. After this training, we leave for our respected job training and mine was was Light Motor Vehicle Operator, which constists of the humvees, 5-tons and 7-tons. I went to Fort Leonardwood, Missouri to learn how to drive and operate these vehicles in a combant situation. In April I graduated from Motor Transportation School and I was now an official "fleet" Marine.

The End

Once I got settle, I recieved a call in January that I will be activated to help in the "War Against Terror". In March, I was on a plane to Iraq during "Operation Iraqi Freedom." Our unit's responsiblity was to supply the front lines with ammuniton, fuel and bombs. After the war was "declared" over we regrouped in Kuwait and left for Iraq again to help with the rebuilding process. While in the city of Al-Kut, we met a nice family who was thanks us for liberating them. Iraq Family

Many years later, I picked up the rank as Sergeant and got out to pursue education and enjoy my family.
